Please
keep in mind that the below-mentioned bands are only a few of my favorites
for I have too many favorites
to mention here. If you like any of the bands below or if I forgot some great
bands, let me know!
ANNIHILATOR |
This
is truly one of the best heavy metal, ass kickin bands I have ever heard.
Their brand of metal is so pure, so razor edged, your spine straightens,
your head goes back, and your jugular combusts in what would be a beautiful
red shower on the wall. They have many CD's, the newest being Carnival
Diablos, which rocks, but the older stuff kicks just as much ass. My
favorite song by this band would have to be "Punctured" off
of Criteria for a Black Widow. Download this song, you won't be disappointed. |
ALICE
COOPER |
I
must pay homage to the man who got me started in this wonderful world
of rock and roll. I have everything Alice has ever done, seen him in
concert and basically worshipped him since I was about 10 years old.
My favorite albums by him are "Love it to Death", "Killer",
"School's Out" and "Billion Dollar Babies". As usual
and you will find this often in my list, I prefer the old stuff to the
new! |
| MARILYN
MANSON |
Truthfully,
I prefer this band's older stuff from Portrait of an American Family.
I do however, own Anti-Christ Superstar - Lunchbox Re-Mix - Smells Like
Children - Get Your Gunn Mini-Disc which all rock, but they don't compare
to "Portrait". |
ACE
FREHLEY |
Ever
since Ace was in KISS, I always liked him the most! His solo album he
did while with KISS was the best out of the four and I have all of his
solo stuff after he left KISS. I loved Frehley's Comet with songs like
"Rock Soldiers" and "We Got Your Rock", brings back
many happy memories! |
| DANZIG
|
Ahh,
the Mighty Midget! I love Danzig 1 - Lucifuge - How the Gods Kill -
Danzig 4. This little guy knows how to rock! This is straight forward,
no messing around, hard rock. No metal, no thrash, but a more bluesy
feel. |
LED
ZEPPELIN |
You
name it I got it by this wonderful band! My favorite CD by them is Physical
Graffiti, but they each have their own style that will live forever!
Oh, and if you have never heard of Led Zeppelin, you don't deserve a
description here.
|
DEEP
PURPLE |
Machine
Head - Perfect Strangers - two of my favorite all-time albums! This
stuff will always sound fresh to me! |
| IRON
MAIDEN |
Killers
- Number of the Beast - Piece of Mind - PowerSlave - Seventh Son of
a Seventh Son (Long live Eddie!!!!). Saw this band in concert last year,
Bruce can still hit the high notes! Excellent band, no one sounds quite
like them. |
AEROSMITH
|
Aerosmith
1 - Rocks - Toys in the Attic - Night in the Ruts (I love only their
OLD stuff). This band has really pussed out in latter years in my opinion.
It seems when they were all hooked on heroin, their music had an edge
to it that rocked. But sober is better than addicted, I'm happy for
them, but will always love the old stuff. |
SANTANA
|
Another
golden oldie that I used to listen to as a child. I still turn up the
radio when "Oye Coma Va" comes on. And as usual, I only love
the OLD stuff from the early to mid 70's by this band, are you surprised?
|
| URIAH
HEEP |
Look
at Yourself - Demons and Wizards - Sweet Freedom - The Magicians Birthday,
all great albums from this "not so celebrated" band. Their
stuff was pretty deep, the singing was excellent. They were referred
to as "the poor man's Deep Purple" which I think is bull,
they had a style all their own. |
SAVATAGE
|
The
Dungeons are Calling - Fight for the Right - Power of the Night - Hall
of the Mountain King - Handful of Rain - Edge of Thorns. I myself prefer
the older stuff (surprised?) like Power of the Night is the best along
with Hall of the Mountain King, these are classics, pure heavy metal,
no fluff, no makeup, just in your face rock. |
WHITE
ZOMBIE |
Anything
Rob Zombie does rocks so mentioning everything here would be futile.
Just take my word for it! |
| JUDAS
PRIEST |
Judas
Priest are a pioneer metal band that is still alive and rocking today!
As you would expect, I do prefer their old stuff with Rob Halford firmly
in place. I have every OLD album by this band but I wish the new Judas
Priest the best of luck! No one can sing like Rob, he screams like no
other, and their old stuff is great, Sin After Sin is my fav, some pretty
mellow stuff on that one, but great. It seemed that this band got heavier
with age, just like me (not around the waistline I mean) but musically. |
LYNYRD
SKYNYRD |
These
guys know how to rock in that "southern" way that brings backs
memories for me that I won't mention here. And I'm not talking "Sweet
Home Alabama", I'm talking the stuff the radio ignored like "Working
for MCA" and "Simple Man". This band was cut down in
their prime, they went on without Ronnie, but I still haven't heard
anything from the new band . . . yet! |
| OZZY
OSBOURNE |
ONLY
two CDs are worthy of mention here: Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman.
Enough said. But Ozzy still does rule! |
| RONNIE
JAMES DIO |
Again,
only two need to be mentioned here: Holy Diver and The Last in Line,
done. |
PINK
FLOYD |
Wish
You Were Here - Dark Side of the Moon - Medley, your typical lava lamp
music if I ever heard it! |
VAN
HALEN |
Van
Halen I, Van Halen II, Women and Children First, all the old stuff up
until Diver Down, since then they have lost me as a fan. Once you start
using synthesizers, you lose me! |
| THE
DOORS |
One
of my oldest most favorite bands, unfortunately they are no longer around
(or alive) but they put out some pretty strange stuff for their time.
Again, the songs that interest me are not the radio songs, but songs
like "Peace Frog, Blue Sunday", "This is the End",
"Soul Kitchen", etc. Remember, he is the Lizard King . . .
he can do anything! |
MERCIFUL
FATE / KING DIAMOND |
This is a great metal band that has been around for a long time. "Time" is my favorite disc by this band and by Kind Diamond I love "The Graveyard", a must for the metal fan! |
MOTLEY
CRUE |
Two
albums and that is all, "Too Fast for Love" and "Shout
at the Devil", they lost me after that. |
QUEENSRYCHE
|
I
have loved this band from waaaaay back, starting with Columbia House
sending me "Operation Mindcrime" by mistake. Their new stuff
doesn't do it for me, but the old stuff definitely rocks! |
RUSH
|
Me and Rush go way back as well, but like the rest, they changed their style and lost me forever after "Moving Pictures". All the albums before and including "Moving Pictures" will always be my favorites. This band used to have style and "bite" and it is no longer there so go back and get the old ones children! You won't be disappointed! My nickname in high school was RUSH, so any of you from that time "hello, it's me!". haha |
METALLICA
|
Kill
em All - Ride the Lightening - Master of Puppets - And Justice for All
- Garage Days Revisited, I'm sorry to say that that is all the stuff
I love by this wonderful band, their new stuff is too mellow for the
likes of me and I wish they would grow their balls back and ROCK! But
alas, even if they did grow their balls back I would still hate them
for being rich, sellout, record exec sluts, only out for the mighty
dollar and not for the music. I know making money is great, but they
have enough now don't you think? Greedy bastards. |
MEGADETH
|
I'm not going to name every Megadeth CD I have cause it would take me too long, but I must say that I love this band and their style, their new stuff is a bit stale but hey, that's how I view all new stuff right? |
SLAYER
|
Show
No Mercy - Hell Awaits - Seasons in the Abyss. What metalhead doesn't
love this band that has been around for ages? |
JIMI
HENDRIX |
What
more can I say about Jimi that hasn't been said already? He was way
before his time and had an excellent guitar playing style that many
have tried to copy and few have succeeded. |
TOOL |
This band may be new, but I still like them quite a bit. I have every disc they have done and they have never disappointed me! I admire their style because they sound different, and that is the key to success in my book! Too bad the radio prefers to play more mainstream music and not more bands like this. |
FILTER
|
When
I heard "Hey Man Nice Shot" I knew that this band had something
special. They are heavy and pretty crazy but this band definitely deserves
a mention here in my list. But their new stuff is CRAP, CRAP, CRAP.
In fact at work (I work with all old fogies) they were playing that
new one by Filter about some airplane or something over the PA system.
What does that tell you? |
HUMBLE
PIE |
This
band is very old and in the beginning, used to have Peter Frampton as
one of their lead singers. Great hippie tunes, pure rock n' roll. |
MOODY
BLUES |
When
I was a child, my father used to shut off all the lights, light some
candles, burn some incense (it was the early 70's) and play the Moody
Blues very loud and me and my little brother would dance in the living
room. This music is where I come from, and I will never forget those
glory days in the living room dancing my little heart out!
|
ALICE
IN CHAINS |
I
know, I know, this band is very mainstream but I can't help but adore
them. When I first heard "Man in the Box" I stopped dead in
my tracks and just listened. I like their style and the vocals of Lane
Staley are wonderful in my book, so strange and eerie! Check out Mad
Season, the band that Lane did without Alice in Chains, it's a bit slower,
but still has a bite to it! |
ARMORED
SAINT |
This
band is an oldie but goodie. They have since broken up and singer John
Bush went on to sing for Anthrax, but I still love to listen to "March
of the Saint" and "Can U Deliver?". Great band, nice
and heavy! And now their new one, with John Bush (thank God), Deliverance,
kicks ass! Listen to "Damaged" and you will see what I mean. |
DREAM
THEATRE |
These guys are definitely excellent musicians! They may not be heavy, but they are known to rock when the time is right! From their first release to their latest release, they have still kept their own sound and style, and that I can appreciate when all these bands these days are changing their styles! |
EMERSON,
LAKE AND PALMER |
Oh
the memories! My father used to blast this band amidst the lava lamps
when I was a child and I still love them to this day! Sure, they haven't
released anything really good or new in a few years, but the ancient
stuff is what I prefer. "Brain Salad Surgery" and "Tarkus"
are must-haves for those of us who like to linger in the past. |
DONOVAN
|
ONE
song, "Season of the Witch", my anthem! I hate all his other
stuff. |
OVERKILL
|
Greatest heavy metal band around! My favorite by this band is "Horrorscope", a must for metal maniacs like myself. Another example of straight-forward, in your face, heavy metal with a sharp edge to it. |
TESTAMENT
|
Hard
driving metal to rack your brain! This band packs a punch and is well
worth a listen! |
MONSTER
MAGNET |
If
you love the 70's style of rockin, this band is for you! They rock beyond
compare! |
GARY
HOEY |
This guy makes Christmas music for rockers. I used to cringe when I would hear wimpy Christmas tunes in the malls and on TV, and then came Ho Ho Hoey 1 through 4 and now I can enjoy Christmas music like everyone else! |
THE
EDGAR WINTER GROUP |
Who
doesn't know "Frankenstein"? |
TOURNIQUET |
This
is a Christian metal band that sounds a lot like Slayer, only the content
is the complete opposite. |
JANE'S
ADDICTION |
Someone
brought it to my attention that I had forgotten this band. I have for
years loved Jane's Addiction, Perry Ferrell's high pitched vocals along
with Dave Navaro's guitar playing made for some very memorable tunes.
"Nothing's Shocking" is truly a classic. |
MANOWAR |
I
bought "Battle Hymns" on my 16th birthday and have been a
fan ever since. For metal elitists, Manowar stands for pure metal. Some
may scoff since they dress up like Vikings and the like, but with so
many songs that pay homage to the best genre ever, metal, this band
is here to stay. |
PORCUPINE TREE |
This band has been around for a long while, however, they are quite classic in my opinion. If you like Pink Floyd, new Anathema, and the slower songs by Opeth, Porcupine Tree is for you! With extremely long songs with deep ambience, this is the kind of music for relaxing and winding down. |
NEIL YOUNG |
Neil Young has been around forever, it seems, and he isn't going anywhere soon. The heralded "father of grunge," Neil's work spans decades and always conveys a message. Some of his live recordings are so well done, you would think they were recorded in a studio. From Buffalo Springfield to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, till now, his music is worth an honorable mention. |
YES |
The great, progressive Yes is listed here because thanks to Sirius Satellite Radio, and their great station, "The Vault," I am rediscovering all of these old bands that I haven't heard in years. Another band that likes to perform very long songs (not unlike my doom metal favorite bands), Yes' music has stood the test of time. |
CAMEL |
Camel is an old band that should have received more aclaim than they have. I only recently discovered this band when Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth mentioned on their live DVD, Lamentations, that the song "Ending Credits" they performed was indeed ripped off from a band named Camel. Since I am a rabid Opeth fan, the search was on. I could only locate Camel CDs off Ebay from a Russian distributor but what a find! Camel is very 70's sounding, a jam band if you will, and you can hear the influence in their music that Opeth mentioned. |
