DIMMU BORGIR
If you like your music thrashy and scary, this is for you. This band is well respected by the metal community and for good reason, they seriously kick ass. Hold on tight whenever you listen to Dimmu Borgir, for they will blast out your ear drums. They have done a cover of the Twisted Sister song "Burn in Hell" that is so wonderful, words can't do it justice.
DOLORIAN
This is the most majestic, wonderfully slow, etherial, heavy doom I have encountered in a long time. While most bands are "mellowing", Dolorian are doing it "old school". They sound like many doom bands, then again, they do not. Raspy vocals, keyboards, and hard guitar licks accompany some of the most power melodies in the doom genre. It's kind of like you are sharing the Mad Hatter's blackest nightmare and Dolorian is providing the soundtrack. This isn't toe tapping music with catchy tunes, I'll tell you that!
DRACONIAN
This is doom at its finest. Death vocals mixed with female sopranos, takes me back to the early Theatre of Tragedy days. Excellent long songs with haunting melodies have an even flow.
DREADFUL SHADOWS
Ahhh yes, another unique doom band that sings to my soul.  This is another beauty left behind on the "used" cd rack.  Whatever sucker left this one is a fool!  This is melodic, ethereal metal, with haunting melodies.  The only problem I have is the singing.  You could categorize the singing as "gothic", not metal.
EMINENZ
I found this gem in a used CD store (where else?) and it's a lot like Cradle of Filth but slower, less thrashy.  These guys are intense and scary!  The inside pictures are gory and bloody and so is the music!  Turn off the lights and enjoy!
EM SINFONIA
I must say "In Mournings Symphony" is one of the best doom recordings I have gotten my hands on in a long time, and they are not from Norway!  They are from the good ole' USA!  This band pours out their hearts with great guitars, violins, male and female vox, if you like Beseech, you will love Em Sinfonia.
ENTOMBED
This band caught my ear while listening to Snakenet Metal Radio at work, and I must say they deliver some hard-hitting, metal up your ass, music! The song was "Chief Rebel Angel" off their album "The Morning Star" and I swear, my eyes rolled up into my head and pea soup came spewing forth from my mouth! If you love bands like Slayer and Dimmu Borgir, Entombed is for you, but most of you probably already know of them for they have been around a very long time. They have a very brutal, crunchy sound that is unique to them, almost bluesy in fact. Check out "To Ride, Shoot Straight, Speak the Truth", if you want to groove to some pure, no frills, metal.
ERIA D'or
Straightforward doom, like sludge, but melodies that will soothe the most savage beast. Great notes that fit together nicely and pull you down into the abyss with a smile on your face.
ENTWINED
I grabbed this CD because it caught my eye. It said "gothic metal from England" so I thought "what the hell?" It is heavy metal, clean vocals with some keyboards in the mix. Kind of a heavier version of Dream Theatre.
ESTATIC FEAR
Oh yes, this is more like it.  I downloaded a few songs by this band after hearing about them from one of you who wrote to me.  They are dreamy, melancholy, soothing.  Using acoustic guitars, cellos, violins, pianos, flutes, female sopranos, you would think they sounded just like Theatre of Tragedy, but they have a more mellow sound.  Heavy in some parts with death vocals, this band also utilizes the age old melodic sound of metal to drift you into nightmare land.
EVER EVE
Someone found this CD for me, said "it was just my style" and thank God they did.  Ever Eve are so unique and wonderful I can't say enough.  Every song is 20 songs in themselves, lots of piano and keyboards but not too much.  Great heavy guitars with gravelly vocals but not death vocals.   Perfect for their style of music.  They are a new favorite of mine!   "Storm Birds" is a must for the doomer or the rocker in all of us!  Their other release "Seasons" is a classic  in the making as well!  A must for someone who liked "Storm Birds".  This band has a style all their own!
EVOKEN
Ahhh, what can I say about Evoken's "Embrace the Emptiness"?  This disc is very slow, doomy to be sure, a step above Disembowelment, but it has mostly death vocals.  Great stuff to play at Halloween, it should scare the HELL out of the little brats!
FATES WARNING
Fates Warning have been around for many years and their older stuff is pure heavy metal but I think these guys have matured and are trying something different. "A Pleasant Shade of Grey", my favorite disc by this band, it very melodic and mature, more progressive instead of heavy.
THE GATHERING
I must say The Gathering are quite good though not as doomy as I would like but Anneke van Giersbergen is a very talented singer/songwriter. All the lyrics are written by her and are very mournful and have great meaning. Quite soulful stuff. My favorite out of the two discs I picked up was "Nighttime Birds" and "Mandylion." I recently stumbled upon an old Gathering CD from 1993 called "Always" and they were doom like most of you like it. Male crunchy vocals but with that same style and grace that The Gathering will always possess.  This band has great style.
GREEN CARNATION
This is an unusual band. Their roots are death metal but now, they are more progressive. They did release a CD called "Acoustic Verses" that can only be explained as a masterpiece. Great harmonies, relaxing songs, clean vocals, and a folksie element that cannot be ignored. They are also known for song they put out called "Night of Day Day of Darkness" which is one hour in length and changes pace like most progressive metal songs are wont to do. Enjoy!
GODGORY
I heard this band on the "Beauty in Darkness Vol. 3" doing "Conspiracy of Silence" and I fell in love with their style.  Very slow, metallic, with low clean vox but mostly gravelly vocals utilizing keyboards to expand the sound.  So I bought "Shadow's Dance" and was at first disappointed because it isn't really doom, it's more heavy metal with a slash of class and sophistication of doom.  But after a few more listens, this one really grew on me.
GOREFEST
This band is absolutely brutal and wonderful at the same time, with its mid-tempo metal that will wrap around your brain and squeeze! Gutteral vocals and some heavy guitars will fill your room with blood, gore, and everything else that extreme metal brings to the table. Check out the song "Goddess in Black". They have two versions of this song, one normal, one enhanced with an orchestra. I like the orchestral version best (surprise). The album "Soul Survivor" is a must have and a flawless piece of art in my opinion.
GRAVE DIGGER
Those of you who love plain old, no frills, heavy metal, will love Grave Digger. At times they can be a little like a prog metal act (Kamelot, Blind Guardian, etc.) singing about William Wallace and stuff like that, but on the disc I have, "Grave Digger", it's just down and dirty metal.
HAGGARD
Now this band really turns me on in that orchestral way.  This band has so many members I lost count.  They use every instrument you can think of, sometimes sounding like a renaissance fair and sometimes heavy and evil.  It's just the right mixture, every kind of singing style.  If you like your music on the etherial, folksy, moody, dreamy side, Haggard is for you.
IMMACULATE BLACK
Someone wrote me stating this band could be heard on mp3.com. I checked them out and they are great. Immaculate Black are very gothic, dark, and melodic with strange vocals. The guy doesn't sing, nor does he scream, or whisper, he kind of groans the lyrics. Fans of 69 Eyes and Type O Negative will love this band.
IMMORTAL
What extreme metalhead has not heard of Immortal? These Norwegian metal masters have been around a very long time and from the looks of things, they are not going anywhere soon. Since I am not a fan of thrashy, fast metal, I was never a fan of this band until I heard "Tyrants" off of their "Sons of Northern Darkness" CD. This album is still very black in its nature and style, however, it appeals to those who need a little melody in their black metal.
IN THE WOODS
This band is very interesting and worth a listen, in fact, they are one of my favorites. They hail from Norway and want to keep the Viking ways alive. Each song is different from the other, using various instruments and singing styles, a must for the explorer in us all. With such works of art "Omnio?" and "Strange in Stereo", this band will make your nights longer and the shadows darker.

A CALL TO IRONS
(Tribute to Iron Maiden)

This is a tribute to Iron Maiden done by some of my favorite doom metal acts and some death metal bands. Mostly, this CD rocks. My favorites on this disc are Steel Prophet doing an excellent "Ides of March/Purgatory", Ancient Wisdom doing "Powerslave", Solitude Aeturnus doing a wonderful "Hallowed Be Thy Name", Opeth doing "Remember Tomorrow", Evoken doing "Strange World". All in all this is a great CD. The bands keep their own style while still paying homage to one of the greatest bands to ever grace the earth . . . IRON MAIDEN!!!!!
KAMELOT
Very progressive and fast in your face metal with a romantic edge that both men and women can enjoy. Songs about loss, love, and eternity abound. The lead singer Khan has one of the best metal voices I have ever heard. He brings the music together like Merlin and lets you ride out the wave of romantic progression until sand gets in your swimsuit.
KATATONIA
One of you faithful doomers sent me a tape that consisted of some very good doom, of which Katatonia was included. So I ordered "Brave Murder Day". This is doom right down to your bones, raspy death vocals and all, kind of reminds me of Amorphis in their "The Karelian Isthmus" days, before they acquired clean vox. Still melodic and heavy and not too thrashy, just the way I love it! On their newer releases they are mellowing, cleaner vocals and that certain guitar strumming style that screams Katatonia to me whenever I hear it.
KOVENANT
This band is hard to describe but I will try. If you like your metal a little technical and industrial, check out Kovenent's "Seti" CD. This band reminds me of a mixture of bands like Gravity Kills, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, and perhaps some Mortiis while still remaining heavy.
LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE
Someone who visited this site wrote me and told me I must check out this band, so sight unseen, I ordered this gem from blackmetal.com and what a wonderful CD!  "Memorandum" is doom metal done my way, male and female vox, violins, keyboards, but still heavy with guitars and great melodies.   This band reminds me at times of Anathema, Estastic Fear, Theatre of Tragedy, and Saturnus all rolled up into one, definitely one of my favorites!
